Ten Years Later: 9-11 Memorial at Montgomery High School

On September 11, 2011, students and faculty constructed a memorial on the school’s front lawn. In total, 2,977 American flags were arranged in the shape of 9 – 11, each flag representing a life that was lost in the attacks. In addition, the top portion of the 9 resembled a geometric pentagon, symbolizing the people that perished at the Pentagon.

Racing to remember victims of 9/11/2001
Article - Friday, September 16, 2011Arlington County hosted the 10th Arlington Police, Fire and Sheriff 9/11 5K Sept. 10 in Crystal City. With 4,212 finishers the race went off with gusto at 6 p.m.
The race, according to the website, originated after Capt. Matt Smith and Detective Dan Borrelli returned from a New York run and decided that Arlington should host a race leading to the inception of the first 9/11 5K in Arlington County. All proceeds go to 9/11 related charities.

The Dedication ceremony was attended by over 200 people, mostly residents of Monroe Township. Fire Company President Bruce Bickel told the audience that "We are here today to honor those who died that day and all those who have given their lives since protecting our freedom." Chief Jeff Buckley welcomed everyone and said that "This Memorial will stand as a testament of our dedication to the residents of Monroe Township and to each other."
