President George W. Bush is airborne in Air Force One after hearing about the attacks. The pilot, after conferring with the lead Secret Service agent on board, flies the plane as high and fast as possible for better security. By telephone, Vice President Richard Cheney advises the President to delay his return to Washington, repeating advice already given by the Secret Service.1
