Veteran flight attendant Betty Ong alerts ground personnel to the hijacking of Flight 11. She stays on the line for almost the entire duration of the flight after its seizure by terrorists, relaying key details about the attack. Acting on Ong’s information, American Airlines alerts the FBI. Ong provides the hijackers' seat numbers, jumpstarting the investigation that will become the largest in the agency's history. 1

During the hijacking, Betty placed a call to American Airlines reservation agents in Raleigh- Durham, North Carolina and relayed vital information about the identities of the hijackers and the hijacking situation on board the airplane. 3
