Pentagon Memorial Stands as Tribute 15 Years After Terror Attack

Fifteen years ago, the building housing the U.S. Department of Defense came under attack. American Airlines Flight 77 was hijacked and crashed into the Pentagon, killing all 59 passengers on board the plane and 125 people working in the building.

Today, the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial stands next to where the plane entered the building, honoring those lost on a day that forever changed America.

15th Annual Arlington Police, Fire and Sheriff 9/11 Memorial 5k

On August 29, 2016, Indian Minister of Defence Manohar Parrikar, escorted by U.S. Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter, laid a wreath the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial in honor of the 184 lost at the Pentagon 15 years ago on September 11, 2001.  Pentagon Memorial Fund Chairman, Jim Laychak, was present to provide information about the Memorial.

"The National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial is located on North Rotary Road just southwest of the Pentagon in Arlington. It is a permanent outdoor memorial to remember the 184 people who died during the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon: these people include those who were in the building at the time of the attack as well as the passengers on American Airlines Flight 77.

U.S. Flag Unfurled at Pentagon - Near 9/11 Pentagon Memorial

In observance of the 14th anniversary since the September 11, 2001 attacks, a large U.S. flag was lowered on the side of the building next to the Pentagon Memorial.  The flag was lowered at sunrise and will remain on the building until sunset.
